Mullein (Verbascum densiflorum) Dried
Mullein (Verbascum densiflorum)
Called the great mullein, greater mullein or common mullein is a species of mullein native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia, and introduced in the Americas and Australia. It is a flowering plant found in mountain areas. It's been used in traditional medicines in Pakistan and Turkey. Mullein contains chemicals that might help fight certain infections.
People use mullein for asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, colds, cough, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific research which support these uses.
Mullein is sometimes called Aaron's rod in error. Don't confuse this with Goldenrod, which is also sometimes called Aaron's rod. These are not the same.
Ceremonial Mullein torches were lit after dark in villages to ward off evil spirits. Hung in stables and barns to protect the animals against the evil works of witches, demons, and to protect against fires caused by lightning. Mullein is an ancient sacred plant that is often used for midsummer celebrations. Serving as a representation of the Sun god. Mullein is considered to be a ward against all evil, and lightning strikes.
