The root is also know as High John the Conqueror or just simply John the Conqueror root, and it is believed by those who use it to be the root of the Ipomoea jalapa. A distant cousin to morning glory and the sweet potato who are also in the Ipomoea genus.

Typically used whole this root can be carried in the pocket as a charm for success. It is often included in sachets, and mojo bags to be used as an amulet to bring good fortune in business, legal matters, and also thought to draw masculine sexual energy. This root is often used to aid in financial matters, overcoming obstacles and as a general protection talisman. It is for this reason that practitioners often use this to assist them in breaking curses, and for winning in court.
