Catnip (Nepeta cataria)

commonly known as catswort, catwort, and catmint, is a species of the genus Nepeta native to southern and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of China.

Catnip has a history of use in traditional medicine for a variety of ailments such as stomach cramps, indigestion, fevers, hives, and nervous conditions. The plant has been consumed as a tisane, juice, tincture, infusion, or poultice, and has also been smoked.

Catnip is often used in love sachets, usually in conjunction with rose petals. This herb is also used in binding rituals to hold friends close and safe. Hung over the entry to your home, catnip is said to attract good luck and ward off negative spirits. Catnip is also used in spells designed to enhance beauty and happiness.

Large catnip leaves are pressed and used as bookmarks in magical texts.
