Asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida)
Asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida)
Is the dried latex (gum) exuded from the tap root of several species of Ferula, perennial herbs. They are part of the celery family, Umbelliferae. Asafoetida is thought to be in the same genus as silphium, a North African plant now believed to be extinct, and was used as a cheaper substitute for that historically important herb from classical antiquity. The species are native to the deserts of Iran and mountains of Afghanistan where substantial amounts are grown.
Asafetida, also known as Devil’s Dung and Food of the Gods, is a foul-smelling herb is of one of the strongest banishing herbs. It is used for repelling evil, reversing spells, and cursing enemies. The strong smell is thought to act as a shield of protection from negative spirits. It also aids in concentration and focus. Used primarily in protection spells. Asafetida Rock can be burned as incense on top of charcoal for protection from evil and to banish negative spirits from your home.
One of the strongest - and most pungent - banishing herbs, Asafetida is used in exorcism and purification rituals to deflect hostile magic. This defensive herb can be worn as an amulet. Carry a pinch in a red mojo bag to keep the law away. Dress a black cat candle with Asafetida Liquid. Roll it in Asafetida Powder and light the candle to get someone out of your life for good.
