Blessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus)
Known as Holy thistle, St. Benedict's thistle, blessed thistle, and spotted thistle. This herb is a thistle-like plant in the family Asteraceae, native to the Mediterranean region, which encompasses an area that stretches from Portugal north to southern France and east to Iran. It is known in other parts of the world, including parts of North America, as an imported species and often is considered to be a noxious weed. Growing in rocky terrain.
It is thought that this plat derived its name from its use as a "cure" for the plague during the Medieval period in Europe. This remedy offered by apothecaries of the time gaining the status of holy for its ability to heal the afflicted.
